London, November 9 : A futuristic chair that featured in Stanley Kubrick's cult film 2001: A Space Odyssey is expected to fetch about 2,000 pounds, when it goes under the hammer.
The chair will be sold at Lyon Turnbull's Decorative Arts and Design sale in Edinburgh next week.
It is one of a number of unusual items on sale, which includes a rare example of English Sixties pop furniture by Jaak Floris van den Broecke.
The sale also includes the first-ever flatpack self-assembly chair dating from the 1960s by Joe Colombo. The Tube Chair is valued at 7,000 pounds.
"It's interesting to see the things people collect or use on an every day basis 40 years ago becoming collector's items. Seeing something we take for granted, it's interesting to see what will become a collector's item in the future," Daily Snack quoted a spokesman for Lyon Turnbull as saying.Kubrick directed 2001: A Space Odyssey, which he jointly wrote with Arthur C Clarke, in 1968.
Despite receiving mixed reviews upon release, the film is today recognised by critics as one of the greatest films ever made.
