Bon Jovi, Enrique to highlight Royal Variety Performance

Rock legends Bon Jovi and soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and Enrique Iglesias will be among top attractions at the Royal Variety Performance this year, ITV has announced.

London, November 7 : Rock legends Bon Jovi and soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and Enrique Iglesias will be among top attractions at the Royal Variety Performance this year, ITV has announced.

The event, scheduled to take place at Liverpool's Empire Theatre in December, will be attended by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. It will be screened on ITV1 later in the same month.

Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts will perform along with James Blunt and Enrique Iglesias at the event.

Award-winning Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins and ballet dancer Darcey Bussell have also been lined up for a performance.

The cast of the musical Hairspray will represent London's West End this year.

"There is no other show that boasts such a diverse mix of acts and this year will be no exception," Daily Snack quoted co-presenter Phillip Schofield, 45, as saying.

Also present at the show will be former X Factor host Kate Thornton.

"It's a British institution that unites some of the biggest acts in the world for one night only and I am honoured to be presenting one of Britain's biggest shows," Thornton said.

Mark Wells, ITV Production's controller of entertainment, is sure that the event will be well received by the audiences in Liverpool.

"It's great to be going to Liverpool in 2007. "Entertainment, like football, is in the city's blood and I know the Liverpool audience will make us feel very welcome for what is still the greatest night of entertainment in the year," he said.

The Royal Variety Performance is staged in aid of the Entertainment Artistes' Benevolent Fund (EABF), whose patron is the Queen.

The proceeds from the show will be used to maintain Brinsworth House, a retirement house especially for members of the acting and entertainment professions, in Twickenham, Middlesex.

The cities where the Royal Variety Performance has been organised previously include Cardiff, Edinburgh and Birmingham.
