Bollywoods Diwali showdown: SRKs abs vs Ranbirs boyish charm

Bollywood is all set for Diwali clash on Friday with the release of two movies belonging to two big personalities of the film industry- numero uno actor Shahrukh Khan and the most respected director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

New Delhi/Mumbai, Nov 7 : Bollywood is all set for Diwali clash on Friday with the release of two movies belonging to two big personalities of the film industry- numero uno actor Shahrukh Khan and the most respected director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Shahrukh starrer 'Om Shanti Om' had created the buzz, much before its music was launched, when director of the movie decided to give audiences a peek-o-boo of Shahrukh's or SRK's new toned body with 'six packs abs'.

With mystery shrouding the production of Bhansali's Saawariya, the film had already hit the headlines the day it was launched, since it is the first Hindi film co-produced by a Hollywood Studio, Sony Columbia Tristar.

However, when promos of the flick made to the tubes, the boyish charm of debutante Ranbir Kapoor, son of star couple Rishi and Nitu Kapoor, floored the people and his popularity soared, especially among the girls.

"I don't think we will even think of coming with Shahrukh Khan. He is too bigger star. He has been in the industry for so many years we can't even think of going head to head with him. If he is the biggest actor in the industry we have the biggest director in the country," says Ranbir.

The last time a Diwali clash of the Bollywood titans happened was way back in 1998. Then SRK starrer film of debutante director Karan Johar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain competed against David Dhawan's comical flick Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, starring Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan.

"Two big budget movies are releasing at the same time, and it has happened in the past that two big films have released at the same time, and have done good. Its not that the two films will disappear from theatres after one week," says actor Arjun Rampal, who is playing the role of 1970s actor in Om Shanti Om.

While Om Shanti Om is being sold as a complete entertainer with one half of the movie capturing the magic of 1970s film industry, its other USPs are the presence of 31 Bollywood stars in one song, foot-tapping music, famous model Deepika Padukone's debut movie and SRK's six pack abs.

Saawariya on the other hand boasts of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director whose last file 'Black' had won rave reviews. It also has a fresh music composed by Monty and two new faces in Ranbir, who belongs to the fourth generation of Prithvi Raj Kapoor family, and Sonam Kapoor, daughter of another superstar Anil Kapoor.

According to trade analysts, the different genres of these movies would help both films click at the Box Office.

"I very honestly believe that both the films will click, for the simple reason that Om Shanti Om stars Shahrukh Khan, the songs of the movie are already popular...As far as Saawariya is concerned Ranbir has created such excitement in the minds of the public that they all are dying to see him," says, Komal Nahata, a popular film critic.

Nahata, however, feels that Om Shanti Om would get an earth-shattering opening, "perhaps the best opening ever".
