Morrissey blames immigration for Britains identity crisis

English musician Steven Patrick Morrissey has reportedly said that immigration from other countries has cost Britain its national identity.

London, November 29 : English musician Steven Patrick Morrissey has reportedly said that immigration from other countries has cost Britain its national identity.

He says that the presence of people belonging to different cultures appears to have overshadowed the values for which the English are known.

"England is a memory now. The gates are flooded and anybody can have access to England and join in," the Independent quoted him as telling pop music magazine NME.

The star musician clarified that he did not have any grudges against people coming into Britain. He, however, insisted that the identity crisis was a huge loss for the country.

"Travel to England and you have no idea where you are. It matters because the British identity is very attractive. I grew up into it and I find it very quaint and amusing. Other countries have held on to their basic identity, yet it seems to me that England was thrown away," he said.

"You can't say, 'Everybody come into my house, sit on the bed, have what you like, do what you like.' It wouldn't work," he added.

According to the magazine, Morrisey further said: "Whatever England is now, it's not what it was and it's lamentable that we've lost so much."
