Wizard of Oz Munchkins immortalised on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The diminutive inhabitants of Munchkinland in 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz have finally been recognised after 70 years, and have been awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

London, Nov 22 : The diminutive inhabitants of Munchkinland in 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz have finally been recognised after 70 years, and have been awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

For a ceremony marking the unveiling of their star, the 2,352nd on the celebrity-studded pavement, seven of the Munchkins who appeared in the movie returned to the spot where the film was premiered - Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Most of the survivors of the original 124 Munchkins are octogenarians, but that did not stop them from shaking their leg and singing a song.

Former Munchkin town crier Mickey Carroll, who is 4ft 7in and 88, told the crowd that they had touched the stars' hearts.

"We love you, you have touched our hearts," Telegraph quoted Carroll, as saying.

Carroll was joined by fellow former Munchkins Ruth Duccini, Jerry Maren, Margaret Pellegrini, Karl Slover, Clarence Swensen and Meinhardt Raabe.
