Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur had a tough time directing his Oscar nominated period movie Elizabeth, because he hated history.
Washington, Nov 2 : Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur had a tough time directing his Oscar nominated period movie 'Elizabeth', because he hated history.
The Indian director has made only two such movies - 'Elizabeth' in 1998, and its sequel 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' in 2007.
He admits that he had been reluctant to take up the project when movie bosses first asked him to helm the pic because he was not interested in period drama.
"When they (the producers) first approached me it was odd because period drama doesn't attract me. I hated history and knew nothing about Elizabeth," Contactmusic quoted Kapur as saying."The British film that interested me at the time was Trainspotting.
"So when we started shooting, the joke was that this was the Trainspotting version of British costume drama," he added.
