Writers strike puts Oliver Stones Pinkville on hold

Oliver Stones Vietnam war drama Pinkville has been put on hold due to the ongoing writers strike in Hollywood.

Washington, Nov 19 : Oliver Stone's Vietnam war drama 'Pinkville' has been put on hold due to the ongoing writer's strike in Hollywood.

The movie, which stars Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Woody Harrelson and rapper Xzibit, tells the story of the infamous1968 My Lai Massacre, in which more than 500 people - mostly women, children and the elderly - were killed by U.S. soldiers.

The massacre ended up being a turning point in the war.

Willis is set to portray William R. Peers, the real-life Army general who investigated the incident while Tatum has signed on to play Hugh Thompson Jr., an Army helicopter pilot who aided the villagers and later testified against the soldiers.

Harrelson will play Col. Henderson, the conflicted officer in charge of the task force that committed the massacre.

Xzibit will play a soldier who is convinced he carried out his orders in a moral way.

Tom Cruise's United Artists was financing the movie, but has now halted plans to begin production in early December in Southeast Asia.

The reason for halt was the inability for Stone and screenwriter Mikko Alanne to hone the script any further because both are members of the WGA, reports Variety.

'Pinkville', is Stone's fourth film on Vietnam War, followed by Oscar winner "Platoon," "Heaven and Earth" and "Born on the Fourth of July."
