Washington, Nov 1 : Simon Wincer is set to helm 'The Holy Road', a sequel of the hit 1990 movie 'Dances with Wolves'.

The original pic told the story of a United States cavalry officer from the Civil War who travels alone into the frontier near a Sioux tribe.

Kevin Costner directed and starred in the movie, which won 7 Academy Awards (1990) and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Drama.

Michael Blake, who wrote the screenplay for "Wolves", as well as the two novels on which the films are based, has penned the script for 'The Holy Road'.

The movie is a collaboration between Moonstone, Amicus Entertainment and Double Eagle Films.

The plot picks up 11 years after "Wolves" as the Comanche tribe is in steady decline and the threat of white settlers looms, reports Variety.

The title "Holy Road" refers to the transcontinental railroad, which is a symbol of the clash of civilizations.
