Washington, Nov 1 : Meryl Streep has signed on to play American cook, author and television personality chef Julia Child in Columbia Pictures' "Julie and Julia".
Also starring in the movie will be Amy Adams who plays a mastercook wannabe.
The movie revolves around a frustrated temp secretary who embarks on a yearlong culinary quest to cook all 524 recipes in Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking."
She chronicles her trials and tribulations in a blog that catches on with the food crowd, reports Variety.
The pic is based on Julie Powell's book "Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen,"
Nora Ephron is adapting the screenplay and is also attached to direct, with Columbia wanting a 2008 start date.
In the meantime, Meryl Streep's fans can catch her in the war-themed drama "Lions for Lambs" also starring Tom Cruise and Robert Redford.
Adams has three films awaiting release: "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day," "Charlie Wilson's War" and "Enchanted."
