London, May 3 : Oasis' hit song 'Live Forever' has been named the band's Greatest Indie Anthem of all time by UK music magazine NME.
The song was released by the English rock band as the third single from their first album 'Definitely Maybe' on 8 August 1994, and it turned out to be the band's first single to enter the top ten in the United Kingdom.
Songwriter/guitarist Noel Gallagher revealed that he came up with the lyrics of this song as a backfire to the depressing track of American rock band Nirvana titled 'I Hate Myself And I want To Die'.
"It was written in the middle of grunge and all that and I remember Nirvana had a tune called I Hate Myself And I want To Die and I was like, 'Well, I'm not having that'", Sun quoted Gallagher, as saying.
Although Gallagher insisted that he likes listening to Nirvana's frontman Kurt Cobain, he does not appreciate someone claiming to hate himself or herself.
"As much as I like Kurt Cobain and all that, I'm not having that," he said.
"I can't have people like that coming over here, on smack, saying that they hate themselves and they wanna die. That's just rubbish,' he added.
The song is also included on Oasis' 'best-of' album 'Stop the Clocks'.
