Mary-Kate Olsen set for first solo stint in Weeds

American actress Mary-Kate Olsen is set to appear in dark comedy television series Weeds, without her twin Ashley.

Melbourne, May 25 : American actress Mary-Kate Olsen is set to appear in dark comedy television series 'Weeds', without her twin Ashley.

This will be Olsen's first major solo role since the sisters' debut on ABC's hit sitcom 'Full House' at the age of 9 months.

Both sisters have starred together in a number of kids and teen-oriented series and movies for television and the big screen like 'Two Of A Kind', 'It Takes Two' and many more.

Olsen will play Tara in the comedy series, a devoted Christian girl living in the newly developed mega church community Majestic who becomes a love interest for Nancy Botwin's son Silas.

Mary-Louise Parker will play the part of Botwin, while Hunter Parrish will star as Silas.

Kate Olsen insisted that she is very 'thrilled' to join the show's talented crew.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the show. It's really an honour to be a part of such a talented group of actors and writers," Moviehole.net quoted Olsen, as saying.

According to Jenji Kohan, series creator and executive producer Mary-Kate is a perfect choice for the role.

"Weeds' isn't your 8 o'clock family fare. It's an adult show with adult subject matter, and we're confident Mary-Kate is right for the role. She came in and read with Hunter and was absolutely charming and real and seemed like a great fit. Audiences have seen only one side of Mary-Kate, but here we'll see her in a whole new light," Kohan said.
