The reports have cropped up amidst worldwide celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the first film.
Internet rumours hint that Lucas has plans to make a new Star Wars movie set prior to the recent prequels, reports stuff.co.nz.
According to Chris Brennan, a member the Australian Star Wars appreciation society attending the official convention Celebration IV in LA, the news leaked when Lucas indicated that he was working on a new movie in a recent interview, and then tried to cover it up.
The film is expected to be set in the period of the Old Republic, when the Jedi got back the power of the galaxy from the Dark Lords of the Sith.
Lucas has already confirmed that a Star Wars live action TV series will start shooting in Australia next year.
