Actor Al Pacino has joined a crusade against the unlawful use of images of dead celebrities.
New York, June 25 : Actor Al Pacino has joined a crusade against the unlawful use of images of dead celebrities.
The "Ocean's Thirteen" star has joined John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and relatives of Jimi Hendrix, Arthur Ashe and Babe Ruth to recommend the state Legislature stop the illegal use of images of celebrated people after their demise.
"I feel like one's likeness and image should be protected in some way and not abused or denigrated for the sake of profit," the New York Daily News quoted Pacino, as saying.
Reports say that Pacino's appeal on behalf of dead celebrities is at the request of close friend Anna Strasberg, who has by now made at least 20 million dollars off the image of Marilyn Monroe.
Meanwhile Pacino was conferred with the 35th American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award recently.
Widely regarded as the highest honour for a career in film, the tribute celebrated Pacino's outstanding career with many of his colleagues, friends and family present.
