London, June 17 : Rocker Rod Stewart wed his girlfriend Penny Lancaster in a 17th century Villa in Italy in front of a small audience that consisted of only Lancaster's parents on June 16.
Though Stewart's close pals Mick Jagger and Elton John were expected to attend the wedding, the ceremony did not have many big names to witness the occasion, that took place at the magnificent Villa Durazzo in Santa Margherita Ligure,
The 36-year-old wore a knee length, cream dress matched with cream high heels and Stewart was dressed in blue pinstriped trousers and cream jacket.
The ceremony lasted for about 20 minutes and Stewart gushed that he felt 'fantastic' to marry his girlfriend of 9 years.
Local councillor Maria Benazzi, who carried out the wedding, said that is it an honour to carry out the wedding of her idol.
"Rod Stewart was my idol when I was younger, so to carry out his wedding ceremony was a great honour," the Daily Mail quoted Benazzi as saying.
"There was the classic simple civil wedding service, with an exchange of rings, and at the end I pronounced them man and wife. hey kissed each other and her parents applauded," she added.
Lancaster walked hand-in-hand with her new husband and held their 18-month old son Alastair in the other hand,
The couple later sunbathed on a yacht before heading for Aan evening reception
The reception was attended by Celtic football manager Gordon Strachan and singer Michael Bolton with his fiancee, 'Desperate Housewives' actress Nicollette Sheridan.
Five out of Stewart's seven children joined the celebrations, as Kimberley from his first marriage to Alana Hamilton; Renee and Liam by his second wife model Rachel Hunter; Ruby by ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg and Alastair.
