Mel C, who had opposed a reunion of the Spice Girls, has changed her mind and confirmed that she has given the comeback a go-ahead.
London, June 16 : Mel C, who had opposed a reunion of the Spice Girls, has changed her mind and confirmed that she has given the comeback a go-ahead.
The former Sporty Spice told BBC London 94.9 that the ongoing rumours about the all-girls band getting back together might be true for the first time.
"For the first time ever, there is some truth in the rumours... it could happen," the BBC quoted her, as saying.
Reports have circulated for some time suggesting that the Spice Girls will reunite for a series of shows in support of their greatest hits record, which is due to be released later this year.
Until now Mel C, who has experienced one of the most successful solo careers for a former Spice Girl, has always resisted signing up for a reunion, insisting that the original run for the band was something they could "never recreate".
But now, Mel C seems to have succumbed to the constant pressure and requests of ex-bandmates Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Mel B and Geri Halliwell.
I've always said, 'I don't want to do it, the past is the past. It was amazing, it was magical. We could never recreate it. But this year people have been talking about it and some of the girls have expressed an interest in doing it," she added.
Mel C confessed that she didn't want to be the reason behind super hit band's disintegration.
"There is just so much great feeling out there and I just thought, 'You know what, I don't want to be the person that stops it happening or stops it being a five-piece,"' she said.
However, she added, "If the Spice Girls were to get back together it would be for a very short space of time. It would be a final goodbye and a 'thank you' to all the fans all over the world."
The Spice Girls were one of the most successful pop acts in British history, with a string of number ones starting with 1996's Wannabe.
The band split in 2000, with all band mates going on to pursue their solo careers with varying degrees of success.
