The small town of Hinton in the Hunter Valley wine-growing region has been submerged since Sunday in floodwaters that have devastated parts of New South Wales following storms and torrential rains.
The township's 400 residents were anxious that the local pub would run out of stock ahead of much-anticipated rugby league match between the New South Wales and Queensland.
The State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, who have been bringing bread, milk, medication, newspapers and other essentials things to the town in two flat-bottomed flood boats, came to their rescue.
"There was some extra space on a boat after the essentials were loaded. So, we added 12 kegs and 36 cartons of beer to the cargo," SES spokesman Philip Campbell said.
Owner of the town's Victoria Hotel, Matt Turner, said the pub had become the main meeting point for residents but had been in danger of running dry, until the SES dropped off the required supply, the Telegraph quoted him as saying.
