The much publicized Lord of the Rings musical has been suspended after an actor met with an accident on the revolving stage at the West Ends Theatre Royal in London.
London, June 1 : The much publicized Lord of the Rings musical has been suspended after an actor met with an accident on the revolving stage at the West End's Theatre Royal in London.
According to reports, 23-year-old Adam Salter was trapped in the stage while performing at the 25 million-pound play on Wednesday night.
A special stage capable of revolving, rising, and falling in separate parts was created for the show at a cost of around one million pounds.
Salter was playing a guide in J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic. Hardly 30 minutes had passed into the three-hour show, when the stage trapped him by his cloak and mangled his leg in the machinery.
The accident has caused him serious injuries, and he is now recuperating in hospital.
Children got scared when they saw Salter being crushed in the machinery, say witnesses.
"He was stuck under the stage somehow. Some children near me got really upset and were asking, 'Why is he screaming, mummy?'" the Sun quoted a witness as saying.
"Eventually the producer came on stage and said there had been an accident," the witness added.
The musical has been suspended for safety tests on the equipment that was being used in the theatre.
