Washington, July 6 : After a lacklustre opening at the box office, Paramount Vantage has decided to reduce screenings of 'A Mighty Heart'.
Movie bosses have said that they plan to reduce the number of screenings from 1,350 to 651 from this weekend to keep the movie running longer at the box office. The film raked in 5.4 million dollars for its June 22 opening weekend, drawing an unsatisfactory per-screen average of 2,914 dollars
In its second frame, the tally was further reduced to 1.6 million dollars, Variety magazine reports.
The film bosses earlier expected that 'A Mighty Heart' would do much better business because of its wide media coverage.
Par Vantage execs revealed that it was not thought that the flick would face tough competition with viewers having many options including 'Sicko', 'Waitress', 'Once', 'La Vie en rose', 'Knocked Up' and 'Ocean's Thirteen'.
Vantage believes that it even lost some of its audience to horror pic '1408' starring John Cusack.
Although the movie is not a hit with the audience as was expected, Paramount Vantage hopes to bag prizes for the film that stars Angelina Jolie as the widow of murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.
'A Mighty Heart' will come out with its DVD during the award season so that more people watch it at that time.
The film about the reporter's abduction by Pakistani militants and Mariane's search for her husband has earned rave reviews and has secured 82 percent ratings from critics.
Jolie might get an Oscar nomination for best actress for the film.
