Racist role in Hairspray was the hardest thing for Pfeiffer

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer found her racist role in 2007 musical film Hairspray a formidable task.

Washington, July 25 : Actress Michelle Pfeiffer found her racist role in 2007 musical film 'Hairspray' a formidable task.

The 49-year-old, who has played many villainous characters during her career, admitted that her role as Velma Von Tussle in the film was the 'hardest thing' to perform because she had to play a racist.

"That was the hardest thing. I inched my way towards this character and then one day it registered: Oh my god, I'm playing a racist," Contactmusic quoted Pfeiffer, as saying.

The Academy Award-nominated actress revealed that she slipped up remembering the 'hateful' lines.

"There were lines I could not remember because they were so hateful," she said.

Earlier, the actress had revealed that she agreed to play a racist only after receiving her family's blessings, as she was very uncomfortable with the role.
