London, July 24 : Guitarist Brian May is set to spend two days looking at the night sky in the Canary Islands to complete his astronomy degree which he started before joining the legendary 'Queen' band in the 1970s.
The 60-year-old rocker, who is looking forward to completing his PhD, is going to the Observatory of the Roque de Los Muchachos on La Palma island to observe the formation of 'zodiacal dust clouds', the BBC reports.
According to a statement issued on May's behalf, he chose the location because of the 'quality of the sky' and the opportunity to use a 3.6-metre optical telescope, 'which allows astronomers to study extremely faint objects'.
May who recently co-authored an astronomy book with 'The Sky at Night' presenter Sir Patrick Moor is also planning a gig to mark the inauguration of another telescope at the observatory.
According to a spokeswoman, the rocker who is preparing to get his doctorate from Imperial College, will present his thesis 'within a fortnight' and many academicians will question him before giving the degree.
