Ruffalo, Pearce top Berkoffs priority list for iconic Brando role

Zodiac star Mark Ruffalo and Australian actor Guy Pearce are on top of director Steven Berkoffs priority list for playing the lead in the West End adaptation of Oscar-winning movie On The Waterfront.

Washington, July 24 : Zodiac star Mark Ruffalo and Australian actor Guy Pearce are on top of director Steven Berkoff's priority list for playing the lead in the West End adaptation of Oscar-winning movie 'On The Waterfront'.

Berkoff has secured a deal with 93-year-old Budd Schulberg, who penned the original screenplay, with regard to the production of the play.

He, however, is yet to decide on whether to sign Ruffalo or Pearce for portraying fading boxer Terry Malloy, whose character was made famous by late Marlon Brando, reports Contactmusic.

Brando garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of Malloy in the 1954 film, which later on won him the Best Actor Academy Award in 1955.
