Washington, July 23 : The German Protestant Church has slammed Hollywood star Tom Cruise for his Scientology beliefs, and likened him to Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler's Propaganda Minister, who was known for his outspoken nature.
The German Defence Ministry has also refused to let Cruise shoot his film "Valkyrie" at military sites in the country because of his Scientology beliefs.
The German military establishment sees Cruise's beliefs as a "money-making cult", instead of a legitimate church.
Cruise is portraying World War II hero Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the man who led an unsuccessful plot to assassinate Hitler in the late 1940s.
Thomas Gandow, chief spokesman of the church, said scientology was nothing less than a "totalitarian organisation".
"This film (Rubicon) will have the same propaganda advantages for Scientology, as the 1936 Olympics had for the Nazis," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.
