Washington, July 23 : Columbia pictures is hoping to tap actor Tom Cruise in the lead role of upcoming flick 'Edwin A. Salt'.
The company is also in talks with director Terry George to direct the film, Variety magazine reports.
George, who last directed 'Hotel Rwanda', has just completed Focus Features 'Reservation Road' starring Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Connelly and Mira Sorvino.
The drama has been scripted by screenwriter Kurt Wimmer and will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash.
The film revolves around a CIA officer Salt, who is accused by a traitor as a Russian sleeper spy.
The officer escapes arrest to reunite with his family and proves his innocence.
