Oscar-winner Gavin Hood will direct Hugh Jackman starrer Wolverine, the X-Men spin-off film that has been scripted by David Benioff.
Washington, July 20 : Oscar-winner Gavin Hood will direct Hugh Jackman starrer 'Wolverine', the 'X-Men' spin-off film that has been scripted by David Benioff.
The South African writer-producer has been entered into an agreement with Twentieth Century Fox for helming the movie.
Lauren Shuler Donner is also associated with the project as co-producer with Jackman's production company 'Seed Productions'.
The production of the movie, slated for a release next year, begins in November.
Hood, who bagged the foreign film Oscar for the 2005 movie 'Tsotsi', was among several hot young directors vying for "Wolverine".
Sources have revealed that Fox brass was swayed after viewing Hood's latest film 'Rendition', the politically charged New Line drama starring Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streep and Peter Sarsgaard, which releases on October 19 and premieres at Toronto.
"Wolverine" mixes action with an origin story about how Logan emerged from a barbaric experiment as an indestructible mutant with retractable razor-sharp claws.
"I have long been a fan of Gavin's work and know he will make a masterful film with the character intensity and action beats the fans expect," Variety magazine quoted Jackman as saying.
