Macca to pay £70 million to Heather Mills as divorce settlement

Sir Paul McCartneys bitter divorce battle has almost come to a close, with wife Heather Mills receiving a staggering 70 million pound settlement.

London, July 20 : Sir Paul McCartney's bitter divorce battle has almost come to a close, with wife Heather Mills receiving a staggering 70 million pound settlement.

According to reports Mills, who split from the former Beatle in May last year after four years of marriage, will reportedly get a lump sum payment of 15m pounds and an annual payment of 3.5m pounds until their daughter Beatrice, who will be four in October, reaches her 18th birthday.

"We're extremely close to a resolution. The figures have been agreed," the Daily Mail quoted a source, as saying.

The legend will also pay for all of Beatrice's living expenses including her schooling, travel, nannies and security.

The divorce settlement, which will be the largest in British history, also includes a clause that forbids both parties from talking about the marriage collapse.

According to a source, the clause was McCartney's way of making sure that Mills maintained a "dignified silence" about the divorce proceedings.

In divorce papers leaked to the press last year, Mills accused McCartney of assaulting her at least four times, drinking heavily, smoking cannabis and banning her from breastfeeding her daughter.

Relations between the couple have reportedly softened since last year's stressed face-off, but lawyers are still standing by in case the agreement falls apart at the last-minute.

To that end the case remains listed for a five-day hearing next February, before Justice Bennett, a family High Court judge.
