One in 43 UK homes has pre-ordered final Potter book

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows will prove to be a big boost to booksellers, for one in 43 UK homes on average has pre-ordered the latest seventh and final instalment of the best-seller series.

London, July 19 : Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows will prove to be a big boost to booksellers, for one in 43 UK homes on average has pre-ordered the latest seventh and final instalment of the best-seller series.

Around 600,000 copies of JK Rowling's book will be delivered by the Royal Mail, the national postal service of the United Kingdom, on July 21.

And the Potter hotspot in the UK is Westminster with an average one in every 15 homes in the London region pre-ordering copies, the Royal Mail said.

The service also announced that it will employ 180 extra trucks and an extra train service to give out the books from retailers' warehouses to 1,400 delivery offices across the UK on Friday evening and early Saturday morning.

Online retailer Amazon has taken 2.1 million worldwide pre-orders of The Deathly Hallows but couldn't identify how many of these were in the UK.

Amazon.co.uk also revealed that additional staff had been taken on at its underground distribution centre to pack the books and make sure they are safe.

"Security surrounding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the tightest there has ever been," the Daily Snack quoted Christopher North, head of books at Amazon.co.uk, as saying.

The Royal Mail figures are based on the number of pre-ordered copies provided by the retailers for whom it will distribute the Harry Potter books on July 21.
