Lennons glass-less granny spectacles attract 1.5 million dollbid

John Lennons trademark granny spectacles, which the late Beatle wore during the bands tour to Japan in 1966, have attracted a bidding of 1.5 million dollars at an online auction so far.

Washington, July 19 : John Lennon's trademark "granny" spectacles, which the late 'Beatle' wore during the band's tour to Japan in 1966, have attracted a bidding of 1.5 million dollars at an online auction so far.

Lennon's fans across the world have been bidding on 991.com to get the gold-rimmed, glass-less spectacles that he had gifted to the Fab Four's Japanese translator Junishi Yor.

Yore had removed the dark lenses from the frame by pushing them out with his own thumbs when Lennon was murdered in 1980. He did so because he wanted Lennon to be able to see in death.

Lennon befriended Yore in Tokyo's Hilton Hotel, and after the band's final concert, they swapped gifts in the Japanese tradition. While Yore presented Lennon with a set of copper cups, the latter gave him the spectacles in return.

The spectacles belonged to an American collector until recently.

Bidding for the item is open until July 31, reports Contactmusic.
