London, July 13 : A fine of 130,000 pounds has been slapped on pop star George Michael because his concert at London's Wembley Stadium overran by 13 minutes on June 9.
Michael, the first performer to play the new venue, sang two extra songs for the 80,000 fans after the deadline for ending the concert had finished.
As per the Wembley Stadium's rules, all performers are required to sign agreements confirming they will finish on time, failing to do which they may be fined 10,000 pounds per minute.
"Wembley has strict rules that gigs must finish at an agreed time or face a fine for each minute they continue. George slipped in two extra songs and racked up a huge bill, but was enjoying himself so much he didn't care," the Scotsman quoted a source as saying.
A spokeswoman for London's Brent Council said that fines were imposed to discourage promoters from allowing events to finish late, but insisted that it was the responsibility of the stadium itself to fine the promoters.
This is not the first time that Michael has been caught in the middle of a controversy, for he was ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service after admitting driving while unfit to do so in May.
