New Delhi, July 13 : After breaking the opening record in the United States and Australia, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"-- the fifth in the wildly popular series-- opened to packed cinema halls across the country on Friday.
Potter fans of all ages thronged cinema halls in the capital to see the much-awaited movie.
The movie has British "wizard" boy Harry flummoxed by his mates at the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft who doubt his near-death battle with the evil Lord Voldemort.
Although for some wizard boy's fans nothing can beat the magic of the third Potter movie "Prisoner of Azkaban".
"I liked the Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban better than any other movie. I liked Harmione Granger in this movie," said Shruti Kapoor, a young Harry Potter fan.
Cinema hall owners said the initial response to the film has been good and expressed hope that it would repeat box office collections of the earlier sequels.
"The opening is very good. We have already sold out for the weekend and even for the weekdays also we have been tied with many corporate and schools also," said Terry Joseph, a multiplex manager.
"Order of the Phoenix," based on the best-selling novel by the British author J.K. Rowling, also proved an international sensation with an estimated 29.2 million dollars in ticket sales for a worldwide, one-day haul of 74 million dollars.
The first four Potter movies, starting with 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," have collectively generated 3.5 billion dollars in the worldwide ticket sales for Warner Bros.
