Washington, July 12 : Nicole Richie's father Lionel Richie has admitted being an out-of-touch dad.
After performing at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 7, the pop legend said he didn't know if his daughter was pregnant, but confessed that he was not sure if he was prepared to be a grandfather.
"Grandpa, man, that's wild. I don't know if I'm going to be grandpa, I don't know if I'm ready to be called grandpa," People quoted him, as saying.
Richie said that Nicole is "living her life under a microscope, but it's the kind of life you live at that age."
The legendary soul singer expressed support for his 25-year-old daughter, who is currently facing trial on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
Lionel said that Nicole was "just in an unfortunate situation," and that her legal problems were simply a factor of her youth.
"She keeps apologizing [about being in the news so much], I tell you, she's doing exactly what you're supposed to do... she's living her life," he said.
Though Nicole has yet to officially confirm that she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Joel Madden, close friends have confirmed that she is over 12 weeks pregnant.
