Sci Fi Channel has ordered a pilot for Run for Money, a reality competition that pits contestants against one another in the quest for cash prizes as they are stalked by hunters.
Washington, Dec 7 : Sci Fi Channel has ordered a pilot for 'Run for Money', a reality competition that pits contestants against one another in the quest for cash prizes as they are stalked by 'hunters'.
Based on a successful Japanese format from Fuji Television ('Iron Chef'), 'Run for Money' takes place over 60 minutes of real time in landmark locations. As the clock winds down, the competition gets tougher as more hunters appear on the streets, the game perimeter gets smaller and tasks are assigned that test contestants' nerves.
Contestants make money for every second they 'stay alive' and may choose to go out of the competition. If they keep playing and are overrun by a hunter, they lose everything. The last person standing takes the prize.
" 'Run for Money' is a fun, fast-paced, thriller of a show and fits nicely with our reality agenda of putting ordinary people in wild, extraordinary situations," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Mark Stern, Sci Fi executive vp original programming, as saying.
"It's high-adrenaline fun: part sport, part real-life video game," he added.
The reality competition announced this year, as part of the network's development slate, is executive produced by Scott Messick (Spike TV's 'Pros vs. Joes') through his Mess Media for Buena Vista Prods. and Fujisankei Communications International.
Production on the pilot is scheduled to begin next month in Los Angeles.
