The singer miffed fans with her late appearances and bland concerts.
Now, the 23-year-old singer thinks that since Hilton and Cuthbert are treated well by the media, hanging out with them will be good for her.
"She's aware of the backlash and thinks people like Paris are well-received by the paparazzi," New York Daily quoted a mole, as saying.
It was revealed that Lavigne chatted up Cuthbert, a longtime Paris pal, at Opus Hotel in Montreal anticipating a playdate with Hilton.
Later, the two were caught on camera, partying in L.A.
"Avril loved the attention! Now she's been calling Cuthbert nonstop trying to meet up - but only if Paris comes along," said a source.
