Washington, Dec 5 : Josh Brolin is in talks to join Sean Penn in a biopic on gay 1970s San Francisco politician Harvey Milk.

Brolin is negotiating for the role of Dan White, San Francisco county supervisor who killed Milk (Penn) and Mayor George Moscone in 1978, reports Variety.

The movie, titled 'Milk' is being helmed by Gus Van Sant from a script penned by Dustin Lance Black, and is due to start lensing in January 2008.

Brolin will be taking on the role that was once attached to Matt Damon.

Groundswell Prods. is co-financing the film. Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen are producing along with Groundswell CEO Michael London.

"Milk" is the first feature about the activist to go before the lens.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have been developing an adaptation of Randy Shilts' 1982 biography "The Mayor of Castro Street" for 15 years, but the ongoing writer's strike has put their project on hold.
