Sir Ben Kingsley has signed on to star in Martin Scorseses period thriller Shutter Island.
Washington, Dec 4 : Sir Ben Kingsley has signed on to star in Martin Scorsese's period thriller "Shutter Island".
The pic will mark Kingsley's first collaboration with the famous director.
The Oscar-winning actor will now be joining a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star as a U.S. marshal who is sent to a remote New England island in summer 1954 to investigate the disappearance of a patient from the island's prison/mental hospital.
Kingsley will portray the mental hospital's chief physician, reports Variety.
Scorsese will be directing from a script written by Laeta Kalogridis, who has adapted the screenplay based on a novel by Dennis Lehane.
Pic is a co-production of Phoenix Pictures, Scorsese's Sikelia and DiCaprio's Appian Way banners. Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese will produce. ehane, Kalogridis and Louis Phillips are on board as executive producers.
