London, Dec 30 : A host of extravagant, exotically located films to be released next year are set to give tourism a boost, says a new report.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) is predicting a rush of bookings to obscure destinations featured in films due to hit the screens over the next few months.
Among these blockbusters is Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman starrer, 'Australia,' which showcases Darwin in Northern Territory and portrays the devastating bombing of the town by the Japanese in World War II.
Darwin is a famous location for cruise ship passengers and backpackers, but is overshadowed by the likes of Sydney, Brisbane and Perth as a travel destination for Britons.
Another film is 'The Cup,' starring former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.
The movie, about Australia's famous horse race, the Melbourne Cup, also promises to improve tourist in the country.
"Both films promise to reignite passions for Australia," the Daily Snack quoted a spokeswoman for Abta, as saying.
Abta believes that the film 'Love In The Time Of Cholera,' shot in Cartagena, would put Colombia back on the map of must-see destinations.
Also, Botswana in Africa is likely to benefit from exposure to a screen treatment on television.
The organisation is also forecasting that the Beijing Olympics in Aug 08 will kindle British appetites for visits to China.
The early bookings for 2008 till now have shown a big interest in Turkey, Egypt, Portugal and the USA.
Events to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War will boost visits to France next autumn.
