Hollywood star Dame Helen Mirren bagged the best actress award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, at the European Film Academy awards held in Berlin.

London, Dec 3 : Hollywood star Dame Helen Mirren bagged the best actress award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in 'The Queen', at the European Film Academy awards held in Berlin.

The Best film award went to '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days' directed by Cristian Mungiu.

Mungiu also won the best director award for the Romanian drama and said he was "honoured" to win for best director too, the BBC reports. he film also won the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Israeli actor Sasson Gabai bagged the best actor award for 'The Band's Visit'.

The Band's Visit's, directed by Eran Kolirin, is about an Egyptian police band lost in an Israeli city.

The People's Choice Award went to Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore's La Sconosciuta (The Unknown).

However, the Romanian drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days lost out in the best film category.

French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard was conferred with a lifetime achievement award.
