Ben Affleck to star in State of Play?

It seems that American actor Benjamin Géza Affleck is the latest addition to the cast of the political drama State of Play.

Washington, Dec 20 : It seems that American actor Benjamin Géza Affleck is the latest addition to the cast of the political drama 'State of Play'.

The show, which is an adaptation of Paul Abbott's BBC drama, had signed up Brad Pitt. However he left the project and due to a scheduling conflict his Fight Club co-star Edward Norton has also been forced to withdraw.

Affleck is to replace Norton and play the role of a politician embroiled in a murder, according to Variety.

Pitt's role was taken over by Russell Crowe earlier this month, where he plays the role of the investigative journalist Cal McCaffrey, investigating the scandal.

The project was put at risk with Pitt's departure in the previous month and with the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike, but Crowe has now taken over his role.

Speculation about Pitt's departure puts the blame on the multiple rewrites, which twisted his initial vision for the play.

His departure caused a postponement in filming, leading to a clash with Norton's upcoming Leaves of Grass and provoking his withdrawal and the reported casting of Affleck.

While it is unclear whether Universal studios are to take legal action against Pitt for withdrawing from the film, Variety claimed Crowe was their first choice as a replacement.
