And, the news comes straight from his ex-girlfriend Jemima Khan.
According to Jemima, the 'Notting Hill' star would often dream about the 80-year-old royal leading to a "stalkerish obsession", reports Contactmusic.
Jemima also revealed that the 47-year-old star would not leave any chance to meet the Queen.
"He'd dream about her regularly and would accept the most unlikely invitations just for a chance to see her," she said.
Hugh's ex-flame also narrated one of the meetings between the British actor and the monarch.
"She asked him politely what brought him to a reception for the Italian president, for example, and he claimed to have a passion for Italy," said Jemima.
To which Jemima said: "I put her straight, 'He came to gawp at you again, Ma'am'. She nodded wearily."
Hugh and Jemima split amicably this year in February.
