The people who inspired Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington

Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington have revealed the people who inspired them to achieve their current status.

Washington, Dec 15 : Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington have revealed the people who inspired them to achieve their current status.

The talk show queen, who is touring with US presidential hopeful Barack Obama, revealed that as a girl, her biggest inspiration was her fourth-grade teacher.

"My fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Benton, was the first person that I really could see believed in me," People quoted Winfrey, as saying.

She added: "She would tell me that I was just the smartest little girl she'd ever seen."

Winfrey also described how she wants to inspire the next generation of girls she encounters everyday.

"I felt shiny in her eyes. It's why, whenever I see a little girl, I always stop to try and acknowledge her. I always try to have a shiny moment," she said.

Washington, who directs as well as stars in 'The Great Debaters', produced by Winfrey, had a different take on the subject.

"The thing is that you don't know who you influence," he said.

"I had a young counselor at the Boys [and Girls] Club who told me, 'You know, with all your smarts, you can do anything you want to do in life.' And I can remember like it was yesterday, walking out of the club, putting my shirt on, going, 'I can do anything,'" he added.
