Gwen Stefani wants to give back to society

Pop star Gwen Stefani has decided to give back to society by setting up a college fund for victims of the recent San Diego wildfires.

Washington, Dec 12 : Pop star Gwen Stefani has decided to give back to society by setting up a college fund for victims of the recent San Diego wildfires.

The tragedy, which occurred in October, destroyed more than 1,700 homes and killed 10 people in California's second-largest city.

The Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship will be available to graduating high school seniors and college students whose families either lost their homes or source of income in the blazes that raged across the Southland for nearly a week, fuelled by the legendarily destructive Santa Ana winds.

"When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect. But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution," E! Online reports Stefani as saying in an Oct. 29 radio interview.

She is said to have donated 166,000 dollars in proceeds from the show in question to the San Diego Foundation relief fund, which will administer the Sweet Escape chanteuse's contribution.

Gwen says that the city is like a "second home," and has always supported her with her work.

"San Diego has always been so supportive of me throughout my entire career," she added.
