New York, August 7 : Meryl Streep might be a two-time Oscar winner, but the actress was not competent enough to delight her drama school professors.

In "Actors at Work," a collection of interviews by Rosemarie Tichler and Barry Jay Kaplan, to be out Aug. 14, 'The Deer Hunter' star admitted that er profs nearly chucked her out of Yale because she wasn't cutthroat enough.

"They almost kicked me out of Yale. They said, 'You don't have the requisite ambition. You don't want it hard enough,'" the New York Daily News quoted her, as saying.

However Streep added that though it was a reasonable analysis, she didn't require it to be an actor and a contented person.

"It was a fair criticism. But I didn't think I needed it, necessarily, to be an actor and a happy person," she said.
