London, Aug 6 : Indian -born TV chef Anjum Anand is on a mission to dispel a myth that Indian food is only about curries.
The host of the BBC2 series 'Indian Food Made Easy' aims to make viewers dump the cliched takeaway tikka masalas.
"I want people to realise Indian food is so much more than just curries," The Mirror quoted her, as saying..
"I think people have a misconception about Indian food on many levels - that it's unhealthy, which it's not, and secondly, that it's complicated, which it isn't."
"People don't associate fish with Indian food for instance.It's about dispelling the myth and saying 'have another look.'"
Anand said that she took to cooking to lose weight.
"I did sometimes think I was too thin, but I think that's because my family pointed it out to me," she says. "They said: 'have you realised your face looks gaunt,'" the tabloid quoted her, as saying.
"I had to put weight back on because it didn't suit me," she added.
The London-born, who has been named the Nigella of Indian cuisine, said that she doesn't ooze sex appeal like the latter does, and that she only reflects more passion.
"I don't see myself as a sexy cook. I think I'm very different from Nigella. She oozes sex appeal. I think with me you see more passion, less sexiness," she said.
