Murphy acknowledges Browns babys paternity

Actor Eddie Murphy has conceded that he is the father of the four-month-old baby of former Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown, who brought a paternity suit against him earlier this week.

Washington, Aug. 4 : Actor Eddie Murphy has conceded that he is the father of the four-month-old baby of former 'Spice Girls' singer Melanie Brown, who brought a paternity suit against him earlier this week.

A statement his representative has issued states that the actor "acknowledges paternity of the child Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy."

The statement contradicts Brown and her lawyer Gloria Allred's claim that Murphy did not pay "one penny of child support", reports People magazine.

Murphy has also hit out at Brown's claim that they had planned to start a family together.

"Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of any sort," the statement continued.

The actor has, however, promised that he will fulfil all his responsibilities as a father.

"Eddie Murphy always has and will continue to honour his responsibilities as a father," Contactmusic quoted the statement as saying.

Baby Angel was born on 3 April and a subsequent DNA test established Murphy, who is now engaged to producer Tracey Edmonds, as the father.
