Guitarist Brian May has finally submitted his thesis for the 35-year-in-waiting astronomy PhD degree.
London, Aug 4 : Guitarist Brian May has finally submitted his thesis for the 35-year-in-waiting astronomy PhD degree.
The 60-year-old, who recently spent two days looking at the night sky in the Canary Islands for his thesis 'Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud', handed over the 48,000-word document to Imperial College's head of astrophysics Professor Paul Nandra.
May, who returned to the university to complete his astronomy PhD, which he started before joining the legendary 'Queen' band in the 1970s, revealed that it was a tough decision to drop his degree earlier.
"It's been the longest gap year ever. It was a tough decision back then to leave my studies for music," the BBC quoted May, as saying.
The rock star insisted that at the time, his 'passion for music was stronger'.
His spokesman revealed that May was set to discuss his thesis with the examining board on 23 August and the results will be out in a short time.
The guitarist who has repeatedly appeared next to Sir Patrick Moore on the long-running BBC series 'The Sky At Night', is desperately hoping to pass the academicians' test.
"If I fail I will fail big time - it will be a very public failure with all this press," May said.
