It is a well known fact that Simon Fuller is the main orchestrator in David Beckhams 250 million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy, but what might not be known is that the British record and television producer was also the brains behind sending an injured Beckham onto the field.
London, August 3 : It is a well known fact that Simon Fuller is the main orchestrator in David Beckham's 250 million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy, but what might not be known is that the British record and television producer was also the brains behind sending an injured Beckham onto the field.
Beckham made his US debut on July 21, against English Premier League club Chelsea at the Home Depot Center, LA, and Fuller, knowing that the former England captain was unfit, acted in favour of sending Beckham to play despite an injured ankle.
Fuller, who manages Brand Beckham through his management group, 19 Entertainment, cunningly controlled Beckham's astonishing assault on the American football scene.
Sources say that sending an injured Beckham to play was part of Fuller's cleverly crafted behind the scenes plot so as to keep the hype alive.
"Brand Beckham needed their star on the field and Simon made sure it happened. For the thousands of extra seats sold that day, the hundreds of thousands of seats sold at stadiums across America anticipating Beckham's arrival, for all the licensed merchandise, endorsements and to keep the hype alive, he needed to be on the field," the Daily Express quoted an insider, as saying.
"And Simon is producing a new TV series following Beckham's progress in American soccer, which began airing this week. It would be a disappointing premiere if Beckham spent his first game on the sidelines icing his ankle. That's not exciting TV," the insider added.
Fuller, who has been in charge of David and Victoria Beckham's careers for some time now, has now turned to Posh.
Sources say that it was Fuller who persuaded the Spice Girl to make a guest appearance in America's popular sitcom Ugly Betty, despite the singer's reluctance to act.
