Keanu Reeves has been roped in by 20th Century Fox to star in their remake of the much admired, 1951 science fiction film, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Washington, August 27 : Keanu Reeves has been roped in by 20th Century Fox to star in their remake of the much admired, 1951 science fiction film, 'The Day the Earth Stood Still.'
The 'Speed' star will play a humanoid alien named Klaatu, who lands on Earth with his giant robot to warn the world leaders that they must learn to live in peace, or be destroyed by their outer-space neighbours.
The film, to be produced by Erwin Stoff, will be directed by Scott Derrickson of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" fame.
David Scarpa will script the project, which is expected to start production work in early 2008, reports Variety.
Meanwhile Keanu has just wrapped up David Ayer-directed "The Night Watchman," for Fox.
The film is about police corruption and also stars Forest Whitaker, Chris Evans and Hugh Laurie.
