Walt Disney sued for millions over Hannah Montana idea theft

Emmy-nominated writer Buddy Sheffield filed a suit against Walt Disney Co. on Thursday for allegedly stealing his concept for their top-rated Hannah Montana series.

Washington, Aug. 25 : Emmy-nominated writer Buddy Sheffield filed a suit against Walt Disney Co. on Thursday for allegedly stealing his concept for their top-rated 'Hannah Montana' series.

The breach-of-contract complaint filed in Los Angeles alleges that Sheffield, the creator of sketch comedy television series 'Roundhouse', had once tried to sell a series 'Rock and Roland' to Disney.

The narrative was about a boy who goes to school by day under cover of an alias, and rocks the music world by night.

The court documents further state that Sheffield's offer was rejected in 2001.

'Hannah Montana' is about a girl who goes to school by day, under cover of an alias, and rocks the music world by night. The programme debuted on Disney Channel in 2006.

If Sheffield wins the legal battle, Disney may have to pay him "millions of dollars", reports E!online.

Representatives for the channel were unavailable for comment.
