Pop star Britney Spears might surprise the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards again with her live music comeback, by opening the show.

Washington, Aug 25 : Pop star Britney Spears might surprise the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards again with her live music comeback, by opening the show.

Rumours are rife that the 25-year-old, who shocked spectators at the 2003 VMAs by kissing Madonna, is set to perform a new song at the VMA's, in Las Vegas next month.

According to sources, there is "very strong chance" that the 'Toxic' singer performs right at the start of the prize giving ceremony, Contactmusic reports.

Meanwhile, other singers set to perform at the show include Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Chris Brown and the Foo Fighters.

The show will take place at the Palms Hotel + Casino on September 9.
