Queen guitarist Brian May is now Dr. May

After 35 years, guitarist Brian May has finally got his doctorate in Astronomy.

London, Aug 24 : After 35 years, guitarist Brian May has finally got his doctorate in Astronomy.

The 60-year-old who returned to university to complete his degree, which he started before joining the legendary 'Queen' band in the 1970s, got his astronomy PhD after taking a 'very, very tough' three-hour exam to discuss his thesis.

May, who handed over his 48,000-word thesis 'Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud', to Imperial College's head of astrophysics Professor Paul Nandra insisted that he was proud to be Dr May now.

"You can call me Dr May! I feel comfortable about using the title because I worked for this, and I'm going to be proud to call myself Doctor from now on," the BBC quoted May, as saying.

The musician will officially get his PhD at the Royal Albert Hall next spring.

May revealed that he wanted his thesis, for which he spent two days looking at the night sky in the Canary Islands to be perfect.

"It's a bit like an album - you've got to live with it for the rest of your life, so you want it to be perfect," he said.
