Washington, Aug 24 : Socialite Nicole Richie did an eighty two-minute jail term at Lynwood prison in California on August 23.
The soon-to-be-mum, who was found guilty of DUI, checked into the facility at quarter-past three in the afternoon to serve four days in prison.
However, due to lack of space and Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, officials said that Richie would only serve a part of the time.
"At this time, the criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30 days or less for a non-violent offence is as follows: The arrestee is booked, screened and usually released within 12 hours," E! Online quoted Sergeant John Hocking, as saying in a statement.
"This procedure is based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by federal court guidelines,' Sergeant Hocking added.
At around, half past four the same day, Richie was released by the jail authorities.
The 'Simple Life' star left the facility with her beau Joel Madden and lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley.
